Convert M4A (AAC) to FLAC on Mac, offline
Need to turn a .m4a file into FLAC? Citrus converts M4A (AAC) to FLAC right on your Mac, offline, using Apple's own engines. Nothing is uploaded to any server, which matters for client work, private photos and contracts.
What to expect
M4A (AAC) is already lossy, so converting to FLAC will not bring back quality. Use it for compatibility or editing, expect a bigger file. Choose the sample rate (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz and more) and bit depth (16 or 24) in Citrus.
How to convert M4A (AAC) to FLAC
Open Citrus from the menu bar (the citrus slice icon). Drop your .m4a file, or several, into the window. You can also drag a file onto the menu bar icon to open the quick wheel. Choose FLAC as the output format and adjust options if you want, like size, quality or resolution. Press Convert. Your new files appear next to the originals, and the originals are never changed.
About the formats
M4A (AAC): M4A with AAC is the compact lossy audio format used by iPhone, Apple Music and most devices.
FLAC: FLAC is lossless compressed audio. It is about half the size of WAV with identical sound.
