Convert MP3 to FLAC on Mac, offline
Need to turn a .mp3 file into FLAC? Citrus converts MP3 to FLAC right on your Mac, offline, using Apple's own engines. Nothing is uploaded to any server, which matters for client work, private photos and contracts.
What to expect
MP3 is already lossy, so converting to FLAC will not bring back quality. Use it for compatibility or editing, expect a bigger file. Citrus can read MP3 files but cannot save MP3. It saves WAV, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, M4A, AAC and CAF. Choose the sample rate (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz and more) and bit depth (16 or 24) in Citrus.
How to convert MP3 to FLAC
Open Citrus from the menu bar (the citrus slice icon). Drop your .mp3 file, or several, into the window. You can also drag a file onto the menu bar icon to open the quick wheel. Choose FLAC as the output format and adjust options if you want, like size, quality or resolution. Press Convert. Your new files appear next to the originals, and the originals are never changed.
About the formats
MP3: MP3 is the classic lossy audio format that plays everywhere.
FLAC: FLAC is lossless compressed audio. It is about half the size of WAV with identical sound.
