Convert PNG to GIF on Mac, offline
Need to turn a .png file into GIF? Citrus converts PNG to GIF right on your Mac, offline, using Apple's own engines. Nothing is uploaded to any server, which matters for client work, private photos and contracts.
What to expect
GIF is limited to 256 colors, so photos can look banded. It works best for graphics. Both formats are lossless, so pixels are preserved. Resize by percent or pixels, crop, and choose whether to keep EXIF and location data, all before converting.
How to convert PNG to GIF
Open Citrus from the menu bar (the citrus slice icon). Drop your .png file, or several, into the window. You can also drag a file onto the menu bar icon to open the quick wheel. Choose GIF as the output format and adjust options if you want, like size, quality or resolution. Press Convert. Your new files appear next to the originals, and the originals are never changed.
About the formats
PNG: PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It is ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics, but photos become large files.
GIF: GIF is limited to 256 colors per frame. It is great for simple graphics and short loops, not for photos.
